Tourists made 15.30 million trips to North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region over the eight-day combined holiday for National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival – 91.21 percent of the tourism volume from the same period last year, according to information from Inner Mongolia’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
Officials stated that tourism revenue reached 5.73 billion yuan ($830.43 million), 44.47 percent of last year’s October Golden Week.
Due to safety considerations during the epidemic and the fact expressways were free over the holiday, short-distance travel and self-driving tours became the most popular travel methods in Inner Mongolia.
The bulk of Inner Mongolia’s tourists over the Golden Week were overnight tourists: 9.35 million overnight tourists visited the autonomous region, and 5.95 million tourists took one-day tours.
Hulunbuir Grassland, the Horqin 500-kilometer scenic avenue self-driving tour route, Xiliin Gol League Grassland scenic avenue, Bayannuur, Chifeng and the desert poplar forest in Ejine Banner were among the top tourist spots in Inner Mongolia.
Meanwhile, museums, memorials and other cultural tourist spots saw increased visitors over the holiday, and leisure and sightseeing excursions were the main tours chosen by families.
