Pudong New Area in Shanghai received 2.48 million domestic tourist visits during the eight-day National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 8, about 89.95 percent of the same period last year, according to the district's publicity department.
Roughly 70 percent of guest rooms at 17 surveyed hotels were booked during the holiday, while the average occupancy rate of four popular homestays was 92.72 percent.
Among the major tourist attractions, the Oriental Pearl Tower received 137,000 visitors, 84 percent of the same period last year; Shanghai Wild Animal Park received 229,000 visitors; Shanghai Science and Technology Museum received 124,500 visitors; and Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park received 160,400 visitors.
Shanghai International Resort Area and Lin-gang Special Area saw a significant upturn in visitors during the holiday. The former received 710,000 visitors, while the latter received 738,000 visitors, up 52.5 percent and 50 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
