On Sept 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 12 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Fujian province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 13 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 254 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Sept 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,384 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,566 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 184 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 832,332 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,729 were still under medical observation.
On Sept 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 26 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 15 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Sept 28, 376 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 374 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Sept 28, 5,634 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 5,075 in Hong Kong (105 had died and 4,790 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 513 in Taiwan (7 had died and 482 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
