The monthly container throughput of Xiamen Port in Fujian province exceeded 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in June, July and August this year, according to statistics released by the port.
"Foreign trade has been affected by the complicated economic situation both at home and abroad, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this year; however, despite all this Xiamen Port has witnessed positive growth," said an official at the port.
Statistics show that the port's container throughput hit a record high this July.
The official said that it was the port's efforts to continue bettering its business environment that made the growth possible. An array of supportive measures has been rolled out by the authorities to improve services and stabilize industrial and supply chains.
The port makes full use of intelligent technologies, and an intelligent terminal was recently approved for construction, making remote control and unmanned operation possible.
Additionally, innovative measures such as the use of electronic payments have greatly reduced the waiting time for ships when loading and unloading. Special funds were allocated to support the development of the container business.
