Harbin Engineering University opens research institute in Yantai

The Yantai Research Institute and Graduate School of Harbin Engineering University (HEU) was unveiled in the Bajiao Bay Central Innovation Zone on Sept 11.

Eight key scientific research platforms were also launched at the ceremony, including the National Engineering Laboratory, the Shandong Intelligent Marine Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the National Nuclear Power Island Equipment Industry Measurement and Testing Center.

The institute will focus on R&D for the marine industry. It has employed nearly 100 researchers. It currently houses two key laboratories focusing on deep-sea engineering equipment and marine materials.

The university has established cooperation in the marine industry with 46 Yantai enterprises. University-enterprise cooperation agreements have been signed with 18 key enterprises, in which they have agreed to cooperate in the training of postgraduates.

The Yantai Research Institute and Graduate School of HEU aims to cultivate high-end engineering talent for the intelligent manufacturing and marine industries.
