Number of internet users in Wuxi hits 5.85 million

The number of internet users in Wuxi was at 5.85 million as of December 2019, with the internet availability rate reaching 79.2 percent, according to a report released during the First Wuxi Internet Conference on Sept 16.

The number increased by 32.44 percent from the same period in 2018, with the internet availability rate 17.7 percent higher than the provincial average, according to the report.

The number and quality of Wuxi's internet companies also witnessed rapid growth. Five Wuxi-based internet companies were included among the Jiangsu provincial demonstration enterprises for industrial internet development in 2019.

During the conference, guests from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Huawei, AsiaInfo Security, Huayun Data and other leading internet enterprises and institutions discussed opportunities and challenges brought about by new infrastructure and 5G and explored why 5G is at the forefront of infrastructure.

In recent years, Wuxi has been working to develop an industry around new-generation information technology, especially the internet of things, and promote digital economy and smart city construction.

Officials said the internet and social economic development are intertwined, with the internet playing an important role in promoting high-quality social and economic development.

Wuxi has released the report on the development of the internet in the city for the past two years in order to explore laws and development trends related to the internet.
