National park notes tiger, leopard progress

In the three years since the founding of Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, there have been 10 Siberian tigers and seven Amur leopard cubs born, officials said at the park's annual conservation work conference in Dongjingcheng Forestry Bureau, Heilongjiang province on Friday.

"In the past three years, the area that our staff patrols every day to protect the wildlife has increased by more than four times, and hunting traps spotted by our staff decreased by more than 94 percent," Zhao Li, head of administration at the park, said at the conference.

Two wildlife rescue centers and four bases have been set up, saving 188 animals across 41 species, he added.

The pilot park aims to improve the environment and become an example of ecological civilization in China. It has made significant progress in the protection of the ecological environment and wildlife protection.

The park is working to crack down on illegal hunting, while popularizing wildlife protection and boosting fire protection.
