Sept 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Sept 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 2 new cases of confirmed infections (both were imported cases, 1 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Sichuan province), 5 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 12 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 336 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Sept 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,597 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,432 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 165 confirmed cases (including 2 in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Sept 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,146 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,347 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 165 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. 820,397 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,606 were still under medical observation.

On Sept 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 8 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 23 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Sept 8, 308 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 306 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Sept 8, 5,436 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,895 in Hong Kong (99 had died and 4,543 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 495 in Taiwan (7 had died and 475 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
