The emblem and mascots for the 2021 International Horticultural Exhibition in Yangzhou were unveiled Sept 7.
The emblem is made up of two city flowers of Yangzhou -- Chinese snowball (viburnum macrocephalum) and Chinese herbaceous peony. The designers combined the flower shapes and the earth to make a dynamic blooming corolla, highlighting the city's unique culture and suggesting the harmonious relationship between people and nature.
The mascots are two cartoon characters named Kangkang (Health) and Lele (Happy) and are mainly colored blue, red and green. The design combines elements such as traditional Chinese clothes, the Grand Canal and the Chinese herbaceous peony to embody the principle of a green city and a healthy life, according to officials.
Zhao Liangping, deputy director of China Flower Association, attended the unveiling ceremony and spoke highly of the preparations Yangzhou has made for the event. Zhao said that the association will continue to support work to build a wonderful and impressive event in Yangzhou.
The event, the world's top horticultural exhibition, which aims to showcase the latest horticulture technologies and collections, will be held in Yizheng city in Yangzhou from April 8 to Oct 8.
