Reality show shines spotlight on poverty alleviation heroes

The story of former leader of the poverty alleviation team in Goulanyao village caught the attention of viewers when Hunan Satellite TV aired a special series on Aug 30.

The show, which focuses on targeted poverty alleviation programs, held a seminar in Beijing on last Thursday.

Different from other TV shows, the artists involved in the program, called Youth on the Earth (Qingchun zai Dadi), play anti-poverty heroes in the form of stage plays.

But before going in front of the camera, they must learn the story of the poverty alleviation hero through their own way.

Artists must go to the countryside and learn about the roles they are going to play through what they see and hear there.

Many experts and scholars supported the show at the seminar.

The show uses a new format to tell the stories of poverty alleviation heroes, giving the reality show a unique look, said Zhang Yiwu, professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University.
