Aug 29: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 9 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province and 2 in Sichuan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 35 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,286 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,473 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,285 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 188 confirmed cases (including 4 in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,022 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,126 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 262 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 814,433 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 9,148 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 10 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 14 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 9 imported cases) and 3 cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 351 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 311 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 5,301 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,768 in Hong Kong (84 had died and 4,249 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 487 in Taiwan (7 had died and 462 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
