Aug 28: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 27, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 9 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guangdong province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 45 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,654 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Aug 27, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,464 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,271 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 193 confirmed cases (including 4 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 27, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,013 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,091 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 288 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 814,039 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 10,040 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 27, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 21 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 18 imported cases) and 2 cases became confirmed cases (both were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 27, 358 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 313 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 27, 5,288 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,755 in Hong Kong (81 had died and 4,200 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 487 in Taiwan (7 had died and 462 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
