With people choosing to stay indoors more as the pandemic prevails, Shirazeh Houshiary, the Iran-born artist who now lives in London, says she has found solace by looking into the woods outside her studio. By doing so, she says, she sees "all relationships and ideas that make up the cosmic process" everywhere and is informed of the "shortsightedness of humanity".
Houshiary's upcoming exhibition, As Time Stood Still, running in Shanghai at the Lisson Gallery from Sept 12 to Oct 24, will show new works inspired by her experience of lockdown. It is an invitation for people to reflect on the current situation and the state of human society's existence, and show gratitude for the power and beauty of our natural surroundings.
