Aug 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Fujian province, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Yunnan province, 1 in Shanxi province and 1 in Shandong province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 30 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,375 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,418 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,203 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 215 confirmed cases (including 2 in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,967 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,925 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 408 confirmed cases (including 14 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 811,824 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 13,220 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 27 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 9 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 374 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 306 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 5,215 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,682 in Hong Kong (77 had died and 4,018 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 487 in Taiwan (7 had died and 457 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
