Aug 23: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 12 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Hebei province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Fujian province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Fujian), and no deaths. 44 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,478 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,402 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,190 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 212 confirmed cases (including 2 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,951 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,895 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 422 confirmed cases (including 16 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 810,959 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 13,730 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 15 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 370 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 289 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 5,190 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,657 in Hong Kong (76 had died and 3,974 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 487 in Taiwan (7 had died and 457 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
