Aug 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 13 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Hebei province, 3 in Shandong province, 2 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Fujian province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 59 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,141 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,390 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,176 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 214 confirmed cases (including 2 in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,939 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,851 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 454 confirmed cases (including 19 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 810,056 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 14,305 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 34 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 20 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 5 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 366 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 276 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 5,164 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,631 in Hong Kong (75 had died and 3,900 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 487 in Taiwan (7 had died and 457 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
