Aug 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 11 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Shandong province, 1 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Sichuan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 47 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,264 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,368 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,164 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 204 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,917 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,792 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 491 confirmed cases (including 20 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 809,209 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 14,599 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 23 new asymptomatic cases (including 22 imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 6 imported cases) and 3 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 353 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 248 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 20, 5,136 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,604 in Hong Kong (75 had died and 3,827 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 486 in Taiwan (7 had died and 457 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
