Aug 19: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 18, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 17 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Guangdong province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Shandong province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 43 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,002 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Aug 18, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,339 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,127 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 212 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 18, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,888 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,685 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 569 confirmed cases (including 26 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 808,005 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 17,093 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 18, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 14 new asymptomatic cases (including 13 imported cases). 23 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 11 imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 18, 345 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 221 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 18, 5,092 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,560 in Hong Kong (71 had died and 3,677 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 486 in Taiwan (7 had died and 450 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
