Aug 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 8 in Guangdong province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Shandong province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 28 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,517 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,300 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,098 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 202 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,849 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,603 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 612 confirmed cases (including 30 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 806,649 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 19,207 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 37 new asymptomatic cases (including 36 imported cases). 4 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 351 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 209 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 5,010 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,480 in Hong Kong (69 had died and 3,549 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 484 in Taiwan (7 had died and 450 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
