Aug 16: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new cases of confirmed infections (15 imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Sichuan province; 4 indigenous cases in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Fujian), and no deaths. 56 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,290 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,278 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,094 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 184 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,827 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,575 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 618 confirmed cases (including 34 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 805,857 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 19,933 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new asymptomatic cases (including 11 imported cases). 14 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 9 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 319 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 176 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 4,934 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,406 in Hong Kong (69 had died and 3,488 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 482 in Taiwan (7 had died and 450 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
