LUSAKA -- The Zambian government has commended China for the support rendered over the years to help the southern African nation's development agenda.
Emmanuel Mwamba, Zambia Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) said Zambia will remain grateful to China for the financial, technical and material support that has been given over the years and for the support recently given in the form of medical equipment and supplies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Zambian envoy, in remarks delivered at a high-level China-Africa joint response virtual meeting against COVID-19 pandemic in the Ethiopian capital called on China and other partners to support Zambia with the procurement of diagnostic, testing and other equipment urgently required for the fight.
He further called for support in securing anti-viral medicines and vaccines when they are developed and approved and called for the standardization and deployment of common technology platforms and support towards the pandemic.
He noted that this was key in achieving COVID-19 transmission reductions and prevention of deaths.
According to him, the Zambian government has demonstrated high-level political commitment in the fight against the pandemic, adding that the government has so far implemented effective preparedness and response to the pandemic, according to a release.
