Hechi has made great efforts in promoting the modernization of vocational education and it was recently rated by Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region as "a city with good environment for vocational education development, strong reforms, and obvious results in 2019," receiving incentive notifications and 10 million yuan ($1.44 million) in rewards.
Hechi has established an education work leading group, improved the inter-departmental consultation mechanism, and incorporated the development of vocational education into the city's development plan.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), Hechi invested more than 800 million yuan in the development of vocational education. The city's vocational colleges' building area, full-time teachers, and the total value of training equipment have increased significantly. In 2019, the city's higher vocational schools enrolled 4,650 students, an increase of 884 from the previous year, while its secondary vocational schools enrolled 9,065 students, a year-on-year increase of 1,057.
In order to optimize professional settings, the city has established a dynamic adjustment mechanism for professional settings to adapt to the development of Hechi's health tourism, manufacturing, and other industries. In 2019, vocational colleges in Hechi had more than 30 majors, such as automobile application and maintenance, as well as preschool education, covering the city's pillar industries, advantageous industries, and characteristic industries.
Hechi has also strongly supported all vocational colleges to establish internship and employment bases with more than 80 famous enterprises for the integration of production and education, helping students effectively transform theoretical knowledge into practical operational capabilities.
The development of vocational education has also helped poverty alleviation efforts in Hechi. In 2019, the number of trainees participating in vocational skills and rural practical technology training of the city's vocational colleges and training institutions reached 78,216, of which 45,157 were registered impoverished laborers.
