The wall, located in the city's Xincheng district, dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The wall was restored in 2009 and about 20 meters of the restored wall collapsed around 9:30 am, hitting people and vehicles passing by, according to local authorities.
The authorities said the incident likely happened due to the persistent rain in the city in recent days.
China Daily reporter Zhao Xinying reports from the scene on how the rescue and repair work is going on.
