Rural residents in Guiyang see improvements in livelihood

Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently released economic data on rural development which shows that during the first half of the year, the city's farming industry achieved a total output value of 12.33 billion yuan ($1.76 billion), and the disposable income of rural residents reached 8,607 yuan, an increase of 6.9 percent.

Guiyang planted 1.3 million mu (86,346.67 hectares) of grain, and the annual grain output volume is estimated to reach 383,600 metric tons. Guiyang also built 50,000 mu of high-standard vegetable planting areas and three key provincial pig industry projects, which can add 150,000 pigs a year.

As part of its epidemic prevention and control measures, Guiyang issued 34 million yuan of special funds and 20 million yuan of credit loans and subsidies to support the vegetable industry and guarantee the stable supply of agricultural products.

According to the requirements of its poverty alleviation plan, Guiyang completed 147 dispersed drinking water projects in rural areas, ensured all students in compulsory education stayed in school, and allowed medical insurance to cover as many people as possible.

To promote a rural industrial revolution, Guiyang established eight work teams specializing in vegetables, tea, fruit, medicine, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, and rosaroxburghii.

Using Guiyang Agricultural Products Logistics Park and 154 markets, Guiyang sold 469,400 tons of Guizhou's agricultural products with a value of 7.76 billion yuan.

The rural areas of Guiyang saw 100 percent coverage of the 4G network, 95 percent coverage of the fiber optic network, and 99.85 percent power supply reliability.

In addition, Guiyang strives to enhance agriculture foundation and recognized 2,034 products as green food, pollution-free agricultural products, agro-product geographical indications, and organic food, as well as identifying 3.29 million mu of production sites.
