Aug 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 23 new cases of confirmed infections (8 imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Zhejiang province; 15 indigenous cases in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 45 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,102 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,134 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,027 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 107 confirmed cases (including 1 in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,619 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,168 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 817 confirmed cases (including 43 cases in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. 800,268 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 25,822 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 11 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 5 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 270 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 119 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 4,530 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,007 in Hong Kong (47 had died and 2,755 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 477 in Taiwan (7 had died and 441 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
