Aug 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 31 new cases of confirmed infections (6 imported cases, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Guangdong province; 25 indigenous cases in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region), 5 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 35 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 407 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 6.

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,126 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,017 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 109 confirmed cases (including 1 in serious condition) and 7 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,596 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,123 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 839 confirmed cases (including 42 cases in serious condition) and 7 suspected cases. 799,701 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 27,357 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 14 new asymptomatic cases (including 6 imported cases). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 5 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 271 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 113 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 7, 4,461 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 3,938 in Hong Kong (47 had died and 2,620 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 477 in Taiwan (7 had died and 441 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
