On Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 37 new cases of confirmed infections (7 imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Shaanxi province; 30 indigenous cases, 27 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and 3 in Liaoning province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 10 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 474 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,110 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,008 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 102 confirmed cases (including 1 in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,528 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,057 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 837 confirmed cases (including 34 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 795,607 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 23,985 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (including 7 imported cases). 9 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and 1 (indigenous case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 282 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 117 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 4,276 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 3,754 in Hong Kong (43 had died and 2,314 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 476 in Taiwan (7 had died and 441 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
