Northwestern China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, recognized as one of the "golden areas" in the world for grape cultivation and high-end wine production, has been promoting the qualified development of the wine industry in recent years, and boosting integrative growth through the combination of plantations and cultural tourism.
By the end of 2019, the area planted with grapes in Ningxia encompassed a total of 570,000 hectares, with 211 wineries producing 130 million bottles of wine yearly and over 600,000 tourists visiting there. The industrial comprehensive output hit 26 billion yuan.
As Xinhua News reported, Ningxia's wine industry has already become a key source of stimulus for the city's further opening-up, countryside transformation and poverty alleviation. The grape and wine industry creates 120,000 occupations for local residents on a yearly basis, with wage income amounting to a total of 900 million yuan.
