The "Night of Puhe River" 2020 Shenbei new district cultural and art festival kicked off on July 24 at Xibe cultural square in the Shenbei new district of Shenyang -- capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province -- according to local officials.
During the opening ceremony, the Liaoning national orchestra performed several ethnic musical works for the audience.
Hosted by the district, the festival will run to Sept 13 and the organizers said seven high-quality performances are scheduled -- with a free performance to be staged each Friday evening at Xibe cultural square.
The organizers said the performances will include the Peking Opera, acrobatics, dancing and singing and some featuring ethnic culture.
They added that the public's interest in attending concerts and performances is returning as the novel coronavirus threat recedes -- and the festival will boost their enthusiasm further, as well as promote culture and art to the locals.
