To date, Hechi has built 183,000 mu (12,200 hectares) of high-standard farmland in 2020, completing 87 percent of the total target volume of the year. It has also finished 54,000 mu of energy-efficient irrigation projects, completing 86 percent of the annual project volume.
Hechi's high-standard farmland construction work performance ranked first in Guangxi and was awarded 5 million yuan ($715,462.64), added the person in charge of the farmland construction management department of the Hechi agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
Hechi invested 340 million yuan to build 215,000 mu of high-standard farmland in 2019 and plans to implement 251,000 mu of high-standard farmland in 2020, with a total investment of 360 million yuan.
"The quality of arable land and the mechanized farming have been greatly improved since the implementation of the high-standard farmland construction project. The yield of rice planted this year has increased by more than 50 kilograms per mu compared with previous years," said Wei Haihe, a villager of Jinchengjiang district, Hechi.
Since 2019, Hechi has promoted agricultural supply-side structural reforms, implemented rural revitalization strategies, and developed high-efficiency agriculture, integrating various types of agricultural funds to accelerate the construction of high-standard farmland to achieve high and stable production, improve disaster resistance, promote agricultural growth, as well as increase farmers' incomes.
