By the end of 2018, there were 13 public libraries, 13 culture and art centers, 11 State-owned museums, two memorial halls, one art gallery, and four professional art performance groups in the city of Dalian.
Professional arts groups staged 1,321 performances throughout the year, including 400 performances abroad.
There were four newspapers, 54 periodicals and six publishing houses -- including audiovisual publishing houses -- in Dalian.
In 2018, the number of cable TV users totaled 2.27 million households, of which digital cable TV viewers numbered 1.92 million households. There were 704,000 films screened throughout the year, watched by an audience of 17.26 million and the box office take was 531 million yuan.
Dalian had a total of 2,944 healthcare service providers – excluding village-level clinics -– at the end of 2018. Of these, 153 were hospitals, 85 were healthcare centers and 130 were community health service centers.
The number of beds provided totaled 45,916. There were 63,597 health workers, including 51,842 health-qualified technicians, in the city. On average, the number of healthcare professionals and nurses in medical institutions for per 1,000 registered residents was 3.37 and four, respectively. The number of beds in medical institutions per 1,000 registered residents was 7.71.
Medical service institutions in Dalian served 36.65 million people in 2018. The utilization rate of beds in medical institutions was 79.6 percent.
In 2018, the average life expectancy in the city was 80.89 years. The maternal mortality rate was 7.87 / 100,000 and the infant mortality rate was 2.49 per 1,000 newborns.
At the end of the year, 1.88 million farmers participated in the city's new rural cooperative medical system, a decrease of 84,500 from the end of the previous year.
At the end of 2018, there were 6,481 public sports venues in the city. More than 500 fitness events were held in Dalian during the period, which attracted more than 5 million participants. Athletes from Dalian won four medals in international competitions and won 275.5 gold medals at provincial-level competitions.
The sales of sports lottery tickets came in at 1.75 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9 percent year-on-year.
