The total power consumption of Dalian --- the key port city in China’s northeastern Liaoning province – reported 19.89 billion kWh in electricity consumption during the first half of the year.
That ranked it first in Liaoning province, with an increase of 5.41 percent year-on-year, according to the State Grid Dalian Electric Power Company.
In order to promote the development of the local economy, the power utility has actively implemented a range of policies to reduce the power consumption costs of industrial and commercial users.
It has also reduced the power consumption pressure on companies, optimized the business environment and fully supported their production and operations, officials said.
In the first half of the year, the power utility helped 290 small and medium-sized companies to defer electricity charges of 116 million yuan ($16.57 million). It also implemented a 5 percent preferential power discount policy for industrial and commercial users.
Officials said that from February to June, reductions of about 193 million yuan in electricity charge were granted to 260,000 customers in the city.
The policy will last to the end of year, which is expected to help reduce about 460 million yuan in power costs, according to a spokesman with the State Grid Dalian Electric Power Company.
