BEIJING -- A special criminal procedure that allows the confiscation of illegal gains involved in duty-related crimes without conviction has proven effective in helping pursue fugitives and recover unlawful proceeds, an official said on July 21.
Since 2018, procuratorates across the country have applied the procedure in the handling of 30 cases of duty-related crimes to which it pertains, Han Xiaofeng, a prosecutor with the Supreme People's Procuratorate, told a press conference.
A total of 556 million yuan (about 79.6 million U.S. dollars) of illegal gains have been confiscated, Han added.
The procedure was included in a revision to the country's Criminal Procedure Law in 2012.
Procuratorates should carry forward the application of the procedure to tighten the crackdown on corruption and advance international judicial cooperation, Han said.
