The Jilin provincial Chinese medicine conference was successfully held in Changchun, capital city of the northeastern province on July 16, according to local reports.
It was held as a video conference, with provincial leaders, representatives from Changchun University of Chinese Medicine and delegates from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospitals attending at the main venue -- while other representatives from cities and development zones participated online.
Officials said that Jilin province boasts rich Chinese medicinal resources and is home to Changbai Mountain, which is one of the three major specialty areas for Chinese medicine in the country -- making it ideal for the province to promote the TCM sector.
They said in the recent years, the province has focused on TCM development, improved its policy mechanisms and services system, and promoted both innovation and passing on to future generations TCM cumulative knowledge and skills.
Moreover, officials said that during the fight against the novel coronavirus, TCM in the province had played a unique role in public prevention, medical treatment and patient rehabilitation -- making important contributions to ensuring the safety and health of the people.
Officials said that moving forwards, Jilin province should improve TCM medical services and promote TCM's industrial transformation and upgrading.
It should also stimulate TCM scientific research and innovation, and promote multidisciplinary cooperation with ecology, big data, artificial intelligence and other areas.
They added that in addition, the province should also strengthen its whole-process supervision of the quality of TCM and strengthen its training of TCM professionals.
It is expected that by 2020, the province will see a more complete TCM service system. Officials said that it will have significantly improved its capacity to serve a growing TCM industry, where everyone can enjoy basic TCM services.
