Cargo throughput exceeds 60m tons in Zhoushan in June

The cargo throughput in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, surged 9.11 percent year-on-year to 64.4721 million metric tons in June, the largest on record in a single month, local customs authorities said.

The throughput of foreign trade goods reached 15.6525 million metric tons, representing a yearly uptick of 4.67 percent.

Meanwhile, the city's container throughput surged 15.64 percent year-on-year to 173,300 twenty-foot equivalent units or TEUs.

This is the sixth month in a row that the city has reported growth in cargo throughput this year.

The cargo consisted primarily of oil, natural gas, coal, and grain, all of which saw stable growth. A total of 11.4141 million metric tons of oil and natural gas were handled in the past month, up 50.95 percent, while the figures for coal and grain were 2.6644 million metric tons and 1.0953 million metric tons, representing year-on-year increases of 21.05 percent and 96.71 percent respectively.

The throughput of iron ore dipped slightly to 15.0133 million metric tons the same month.

In the first half of this year, Zhoushan ports handled 284 million metric tons of cargo, an increase of 7.09 percent, of which the throughput of foreign trade goods made up more than 90 million metric tons, while container throughput stood at 820,000 TEUs.
