The 2022 World Athletics Half-Marathon Championships, originally scheduled to be held in eastern China's Yangzhou on March 20, 2022, will be postponed for one week to March 27, 2022, officials announced on July 2.

Yangzhou was approved to host the event at a council meeting of World Athletics, the world governing body of the sport, formerly known as the IAAF, in 2019.

Yangzhou will be the second Chinese city in history to host the biannual event, which was first launched in 1992, after Nanning held the 21.0975-kilometer race in 2010.

The eastern Chinese city has gained vast experience of hosting half-marathons, as the Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon, the only World Athletics gold label half-marathon in China, has been held there every spring since 2006.

Officials say that the 2022 edition will follow the same route as the Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half-Marathon, starting at Marathon Park in Guanglin New city and ending at Sanwan Park. Yangzhou will prepare thoroughly in hopes of making it an event to remember.
