China's first island base station for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System was put into operation recently on the Kaishan Island of east China's Jiangsu Province. The base station can not only provide high-precision positioning and transmit standard time for the island and the surrounding waters, but also greatly improve the operation capacity of the island micro-grids. Through a newly built antenna, the base station will be connected with Beidou satellites in real time and provide precision satellite services for the island and the nearby waters.
