Construction started on a new sewage-treatment plant in Pudong New Area, Shanghai on June 28.
The plant, to be built by Shanghai Chengtou Water Group Co, is located east of Huadong Road and west of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co, and will be capable of treating 3.4 million cubic meters of sewage per day upon completion.
The project is a key part of Shanghai's remediation program along the Suzhou River and will receive about 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion) in investment.
It will serve about six million people in an area of 335 square kilometers, encompassing nine districts in Shanghai - Pudong, Yangpu, Hongkou, Huangpu, Putuo, Jing'an, Changning, Baoshan, and Jiading.
To ensure the plant operates smoothly, Shanghai Chengtou Water Group has simulated, tested and analyzed various possible situations.
The plant will also adopt energy-saving equipment and include a digital management platform supported by information and artificial intelligence technology.
Meanwhile, scientific layouts for plants and water networks are expected to form a natural rainwater storage, permeation and cleaning system, building an environmentally friendly sewage-treatment plant.
