Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has focused on education as a major livelihood project for poverty alleviation.
Huanjiang has raised 1.13 billion yuan ($159.41 million) in funds for school construction, including 132 million yuan for pre-schools, 771 million yuan for compulsory education schools, and 225 million yuan for high schools.
At present, the county provides education subsidies for children, living allowance for compulsory education students with financial difficulties, tuition and fees for high school students, as well as funding for impoverished students in high schools and impoverished freshmen students at universities.
In 2019, the county issued a total of 28.51 million yuan in subsidies for compulsory education students, benefiting 92,300 students. In addition, the county holds a charity party every year, in which all the funds raised are used to support excellent students in the college entrance examination and impoverished students.
The Huanjiang government has also issued a set of incentive policies to ensure the treatment of teachers. Wages are paid in full and on time, while work subsidies, work allowances for remote areas, and living allowances for rural teachers in particularly impoverished areas are also implemented and issued.
The county's teachers and school staff participate in an annual performance evaluation, in which 2 million yuan is arranged for teaching quality awards each year.
In addition, the county has invested a total of 55 million yuan to build 1,033 public housing units and 372 dormitories to solve the housing problem of nearly 2,000 teachers.
