Southwest China's Chongqing municipality signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tsinghua University on June 3, which is expected to build the region into a technology innovation center with national influence, and help Tsinghua become a global first-class university.
According to the agreement, Tsinghua will use its advantages in intellectual resources to participate in Chongqing's major research projects, and provide decision-making references for Chongqing's policies, planning and systems.
Chongqing and Tsinghua will carry out innovation led by intelligent and environmentally-friendly technologies, establish joint scientific research platforms, strengthen the research and development of core technologies in emerging industries, bring high-level scientific and technological achievements from the lab to the market, and build a major national science and technology innovation base.
Tsinghua will help Chongqing build world-class universities and first-class disciplines by cooperating with Chongqing's universities in areas such as building academic specialisms, staff member training, teaching and studying.
It will also support Chongqing to improve its scientific research abilities in intelligent technologies and systems, broadband communication, advanced electronics and optoelectronics, software and big data, biological information, and applied mathematics.
To carry out exchanges and cooperation, Chongqing welcomes Tsinghua graduates to seek jobs in the city, and Tsinghua will provide training courses to meet Chongqing's needs in terms of talents.
Chongqing and Tsinghua will also focus on cooperation in emerging areas such as intelligent industries, eco-environmental industries, high-end equipment, new energy, new material, next generation information technology, and biomedical technology.
