The 2020 International Mountain Tourism Day Online Forum was held on May 29, themed around the challenges and opportunities for mountain tourism created by the pandemic crisis.

It was the first online international tourism forum of 2020, and was held with the aim of gathering the wisdom of the global mountain tourism industry to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak's impact on mountain tourism, and explore possible development trends after the outbreak.

Guests delivered speeches on mountain tourism recovery, and discussed the approaches, methods and measures that can be employed to allow the mountain tourism product to meet the needs of consumers.

Yuan Wei, deputy director of Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, introduced Guizhou's measures to help its tourism industry recover and resume work after the outbreak.

Yuan mentioned that as a province with abundant mountain tourism resources, Guizhou has mountain tourism landmarks such as Fanjing Mountain, Chishui's Danxia landform, Getu River's climbing project and Baling River's BASE jump project.

Yuan believes that mountain tourism will have a bright future after the outbreak, and Guizhou will launch more mountain tourism products to meet various market demands.

The forum also released a report on the development trend of global mountain tourism in 2019, which points out that mountain tourism in China increased between 2018 and 2019.

In 2019, the world's total number of mountain tourism tourists reached 1.22 billion, and the revenue of mountain tourism was $1.36 trillion, which shows that the growth rate of mountain tourism has exceeded that of the wider tourism industry.

The forum was broadcast live on various online platforms, attracting millions of representatives, experts and scholars from international organizations and tourism-related companies.

The forum is expected to promote industrial revitalization after the outbreak, mountain tourism resource protection, and international cooperation within the tourism industry.
