June 1: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 31, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 16 new cases of confirmed infections (all are imported cases, 11 in Sichuan province, 3 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 2 in Guangdong province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 3 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 914 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on May 31, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,756 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,694 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 62 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 31, the National Health Commission had received reports of 83,017 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,307 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 76 confirmed cases (including 3 in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. So far, 745,147 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 4,723 are now under medical observation.

On May 31, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 16 new asymptomatic cases (including 13 imported cases). 8 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 31, 397 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 34 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 31, 1,571 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,084 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,037 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 442 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 423 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
