May 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 23, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 3 new cases of confirmed infections (1 indigenous case in Jilin province and 2 imported cases, 1 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Guangdong province), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all are imported cases in Inner Mongolia autonomous region), and no deaths. 3 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 280 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.
As of 24:00 on May 23, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,713 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,673 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 40 confirmed cases (including 1 in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,974 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,261 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 79 confirmed cases (including 8 in serious condition) and 9 suspected cases. So far, 742,045 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,154 are now under medical observation.
On May 23, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 36 new asymptomatic cases (including 4 imported cases). 35 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 23, 371 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 28 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 23, 1,551 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,065 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,029 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 441 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 411 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
