Activities amaze visitors during International Museum Day

A series of cultural events were held in the port city of Dalian in China’s northeastern Liaoning province to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18, according to local officials.

This year, online museums were opened to the public, in addition to the traditional museums.

Organizers said online expo allowed people to visit museums in a completely new way and will change their understanding of museums.

The city’s cultural and public services center invited heads from nine museums in the city to talk about their exhibits and exchange opinions online with audiences on May 18.

On May 19, a tai chi demonstration was staged in Dalian Wushu Culture Museum.

The World Music Culture Museum staged a Sekong drums performance on May 21. The drums were developed in 2013, with inspiration from the bianzhong, or bronze chime bells.

A bianzhong performance and a guqin (an ancient seven-stringed zither) performance will be staged on May 22 and on May 23, respectively.

Meanwhile, a postage stamp expo kicked off in Dalian Museum on May 18. More than 100 stamps were displayed.

Dalian Natural Museum organized an unusual event to allow kids to learn about meteors and mines. Online activities related to rubbish sorting runs from May 19 to 23.

An exhibit about whales will be held on May 30 at Jinshitan Cultural Expo Square in Dalian.

Lvshun Museum launched an expo centering on ancient porcelain from Japan on May 18, which allows visitors to experience the cultural integration between the countries.

Meanwhile, Lvshun Japan and Russia Prison Site Museum joined hands with the September 18th Historical Museum in Shenyang to host an expo called Forgotten Camp: Allied POWs of Shenyang, which will run from May 18 to June 5.

Dalian Han Tombs Museum launched an expo to display 125 relics from Shenyang Xinle Ancient Ruins Museum on May 18. The exhibits date from the New Stone Age to the Bronze Age.
