Hohhot, capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is to further promote its local specialties with a special page launched on domestic e-commerce operator JD.com on May 16, according to a report in the Hohhot Daily.
More than 200 products in 10 categories -- including dairy products, fresh food, cashmere and catering, from nine districts, banners and counties in Hohhot -- made their appearance on JD.com.
The products are being produced by Hohhot-based companies including Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co, China Mengniu Dairy Co and Inner Mongolia Eerdun Sheep Industry Co.
Within six hours, a total of 4,173 orders were made by online customers with an amount of 350,000 yuan ($49,206).
Relying on e-commerce platforms, Hohhot has formed a development model which is government-driven, enterprise-led and which boasts social participation, is brand-driven and has industry support.
To date, Hohhot has established five county-level e-commerce public service centers, five county-level logistics storage centers and 226 rural e-commerce service stations.
Last year, the online retail sales of agricultural products in the demonstration counties came in at 123 million yuan, an increase of 8.8 percentage points year-on-year.
Officials said this effectively promoted poverty alleviation and increased rural households’ income.
