The relief work for the people in need in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region in 2019 was recognized as excellent by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, ranking it first among all the provincial regions in the country, according to local officials.
Inner Mongolia has ranked first in the relief work for three consecutive years since 2017.
The autonomous region won the honors for its improvements in policy implementation, resource coordination, fund guarantees, capacity building, standards setting, management, fund execution, supervision and inspection, as well as the general rate of social satisfaction.
Last year, the average monthly government living allowance for individual poverty-stricken residents in the region’s urban areas reached 692 yuan ($97.61), ranking it eighth among all the provinces and autonomous regions in China.
The average living allowances for the indigent living in rural areas for the whole year reached 5,914 yuan per person, ranking it ninth in the country.
Meanwhile, the average basic standard of living for the urban poverty-stricken people in Inner Mongolia reached 1,192 yuan per person each month, while the annual standard of living for the poverty-stricken in rural areas reached 9,727 yuan per person.
Officials said that in addition, Inner Mongolia has further standardized the process of reviewing and approving those households under the government living allowance, strengthened and improved temporary relief work.
They added that Inner Mongolia has taken the lead nationwide in achieving data network continuity at the ministry, province, city and county levels. It shares 40 areas of data including pension collection and social security payments with 19 departments such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
Officials said it was of great importance to improve the accuracy of the identification of the social assistance targets.
