As part of the cultural events staged around the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, this joint exhibition consisted of two parts: the main exhibition, The Splendor of Asia: An Exhibition of Asian Civilizations, held at the National Museum of China, and The Exhibition of Cultural Relics, held at the China National Convention Center. It brought together 451 precious cultural relics from 49 countries.
With the theme of “co-existence of diverse civilizations and connectivity of ancient and modern civilizations”, the exhibition was divided into four sections, namely, The Sun Emerges from the East: It Takes Time to Form Beauty, Beauty Travels: Those Traveling Long Go Far, Cherishing Each Other’s Beauty for Harmony in the World, and Appreciating Others’ Beauty: Courtesy Demanding Reciprocity.
By combining traditional displays with multimedia technology, the exhibition demonstrated the long history, cultural fusion and co-existence of diverse cultures in Asia, showed the rich history of dialogue, exchanges and mutual learning among Asian civilizations, and reflected Asian cultures characterized by geographical proximity, close people-to-people ties and peaceful coexistence.
As the only cultural event at the opening ceremony of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, the exhibition was highly appraised by honorable guests. Meanwhile, during the three months of opening, visitor numbers reached nearly 2.3 million, far more than expected.
