BEIJING -- The Supreme People's Court on May 11 published eight typical cases China's courts have concluded since 2019 regarding crimes against medical personnel.

The people's courts always attach great importance to the work to punish relevant crimes and these cases should be taken as a display of the judicial sector's "zero tolerance" attitude toward such crimes, the SPC said in a statement.

Among the published cases was one high-profile doctor-killing case where Sun Wenbin, a man who stabbed a doctor to death in a Beijing hospital where his mother was treated, was sentenced to death and later executed.

The SPC statement said that between 2019 and April this year, the courts have concluded the trials of 159 cases regarding crimes of killing or attacking medical workers or seriously obstructing medical institutions' work. A total of 189 people have been sentenced.
