The demonstration base for high-quality camellia cultivation in Bama Yao autonomous county was approved to be a national organic agricultural product base.
The planting area of Bama Camellia Plantation Demonstration Base spans more than 6,500 mu (433.33 hectares). It has effectively driven more than 10,000 farmers in the local and surrounding villages to develop the camellia planting industry, which can generate economic benefits of about 4 million yuan ($565,294.37) per year.
The camellia industry is one of the largest poverty alleviation industries in Bama. In recent years, Bama has made full use of its advantages in natural resources and continuously introduced preferential policies to support and guide farmers to plant high-quality camellia trees.
At present, the planting area of camellia in Bama exceeds 300,000 mu, the annual output of camellia oil is about 16,000 tons, and the output value is about 300 million yuan. More than 2,600 impoverished households have been lifted out of poverty through the camellia industry, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the impoverished households in the county.
This year, Bama plans to add 40,000 mu of camellia and provide 3 million camellia seedlings for free.
