Students and teachers who are heading back to campus in Beijing must wear an intelligent device that looks like a sports bracelet and can monitor body temperature, the city's education commission said on Monday.
The bracelet is programmed to upload the data to a teacher's cellphone.
Schools in five districts of Beijing — Fengtai, Dongcheng, Xicheng, Tongzhou and Daxing — were first to get the technology.
According to the announcement by the commission, students in their final year of senior high school who resumed in-school classes in late April must wear the monitor, as well as students in their final year of junior high school who resumed classes on Monday and their on-campus teachers.
The device allows the teacher conducting a class to upload the temperatures of all the students in one batch via an app.
Students who wear the device can ignore it, as it functions automatically.
Liu Hailian, a psychology teacher at Fengtai No 2 High School, has been wearing the device for days.
"It's easy to wear and can upload the data directly," she said. "I think it's helpful."
